SAG Award Fashion!

Here is a quick peek of the fashion that hit the red carpet for the SAG Awards last night.
I will have a more detailed review by tomorrow.

So from the pictures who had the best look and who had the worst?

Let's Be Honest...

I know that a lot of the fabulous finds I post are ridiculously expensive. Seriously way out of my budget...for that matter the average persons budget. I can't help falling in love with such beautiful things, I have champagne taste on a beer budget.

Do you know the cost of this entire outfit?
Not including shoes..
The cost of the Dolce & Gabbana outfit that I blogged about a few days ago, was a whopping $5200. Yes, that is not a typo of an extra zero. 5-2-0-0! I would have to forgo paying my mortgage, utilities, HOA, and eating for several months before being able to afford that! And the shoes are not even included in the price.
So its time for the blog to get a little more realistic and down to earth.

How hot is this outfit?
Lovin' it.

Who is not loving this look right now? I cannot say it enough...is spring here yet? I could totally rock this look and for the price I am loving it even more. Let's break it down. This whole look is brought to today by Forever21, but thankfully most of use have these items already in our closet and could probably go put it together right now and hit the road...that is if it wasn't winter.
Woven Trench Coat: $24
Three Button Top: $14.80
Pleated Woven Shorts: $22.80
Matte Leatherette Boots: $29.80 (though my recommendation is always to invest in some quality shoes if you want them to last)
Total: $91.40
The beauty about this is, all of these pieces could be used for multiple looks!
I think it is important to think about the cost per wear, when purchasing pieces.

Who's the Hottie?

Do you know who this is?

I have to admit the first time I looked at this picture I thought why did this come up in my search...who is this? Then as I stared I realized that it belonged in my search and I was intrigued so I did a search of this photo shoot. I had to know how the rest of the photos turned out.

From these pictures have you figured it out?
Source
I am guessing from the above photos you figured out who this mystery celeb is. Ready for the reveal? Drum roll, please......She did this photo shoot for YRB in September of 2009.
It is Kim Kardashian!
Did you guess right?

Hanky....No Panky...

Who wants to buy this gorgeous piece for me?
I would like to thank Dolce & Gabbana for gracing my fashion loving eyes with this spring "dress"; because its not really a dress at all it is 3 pieces (a top, bodysuit, and skirt) but it is so flawlessly executed that I thought it was a dress. I am in love. Seriously in love with this look. How could you not love this delicate piece of beauty? You would have to be the Grinch of spring and beautiful things....

Love. Seriously.
Look at the detailing. Perfection.
This was look 34 from the Spring 2011 collection. To celebrate their 25th anniversary of business, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana drew inspiration for their Spring 2011 collection from a hope chest, heirlooms and new treasures a bride brings to begin her new life. {source}

Weekend Update: Wednesday Edition

I had one of those really great weekends, but then when Sunday night came I looked at the clock and wondered where my weekend had gone. I was pretty busy most of the time. I am kicking myself for carrying a camera with me and not getting into the habit of actually taking pictures...sigh.

Have you ever had one of those days of just pure calamity? That was Friday for me, just unfiltered and complete clumsiness. After telling my mom all the things that had happened she said to me sounds like you shouldn't have gotten out of bed. But the truth is despite everything that happened I was still in a really good mood. I woke up in the morning and the first thing I did was start cleaning, because three of my faves (Irene, Jackie, and LB) were coming over for dinner. We have a standing girl's night every month, and just rotate whose house it will be at. It was my turn to host and cook the main dish. So all morning was devoted to rocking out with the iPod while I vacuumed, did dishes, scrubbed (on my hands and knees I hate that freakin floor), straightened up...you know all the basics before guests come over. By early afternoon I had practically finished cleaning, had even set the table and centerpieces in the dining room and kitchen. I ate lunch and decided it was about time to take a shower. I went upstairs and to my surprise...no water. I called my HOA and apparently they were working on the main. Sigh. So I got my butt into gear and went to the Post Office and Harris Teeter with no shower. And I know some of you are thinking that is not too big of a deal but I have oily hair. I am not one of those people who can go a day or more without washing their hair. If I don't wash my hair I look like I live under a bridge. But I had things to do, and figured it would be on by the time I got home.

And so the calamity starts. While I was unlocking my door with only one bag in my hand. The bag split from the bottom having the bottle of sparkling cider hit the cement porch and shatter...then the passion fruit mix split the bag and also shattered into a million pieces. So I cleaned off the porch the best I could and called good ole Harris Teeter who agreed to replace the bottles. Before I could head out I had to call my mortgage company to fix a mistake on their part. Once I got back from my 2nd trip to Harris Teeter I checked the water. Still none. So I figured I might as well make my punch put it in the fridge and put the mint in the drink glasses. I got the bright I idea to put the glasses in the freezer until dinner...I had forgotten to move my crock-pot off the door of the fridge (I had moved it a little bit to get into the cabinet) and while I was holding a martini glass it fell on top of me, and I figured the crock-pot was far more important than the $1 martini glass I bought at consignment. So now the total is up to three broken things...while I was picking up the glass I realized my jeans had been cut and I had been bleeding. This probably happened during the bottles breaking on the porch incident. This did bum me out because I really love those jeans they were a great buy and nice enough to wear to work. After all that was said and done the water was still not on, so I decided to turn on the kitchen faucet while I watched TV, and when the water turned on I would make a B-line to the shower. And it did come on and I sang hallelujah when it did...it was about 5:50 when the water came on and I was expecting people to arrive at about 6:15ish. I have never showered and blow-dried my hair and applied make-up so quickly. I finished it just in time because Irene arrived to cook her side dish. While she was doing so, I decided to get the glasses out of the freezer and prepare them for the table. First drink went flawlessly. Second, flew out of the freezer breaking  everywhere. Yes, I had broken glass number two, the total for the day was 4! Can you believe it? Thankfully dinner went off flawlessly until I spilled sticky punch on my just cleaned floors.

Before dinner we did a little baby shower planning. I am so excited to be planning Irene's shower. I can't wait. You guys are going to be in a treat when I blog about it.

Lisa Frank playing cards
After dinner I decided us girls needed to play a hand or two of cards (since their boys...I am the only single girl in the group, were playing Risk for their guys night). I went to my box (where I keep my cards, poker chips, random items, and stationary in) and pulled out the Lisa Frank cards. Yes, that is right...I still have Lisa Frank playing cards. They are a little on the shabby side, but I brought them out for a good ole hand of Rummy. I have to admit I was shocked when none of my girls knew how to play. I've spent countless family nights playing card games like Rummy. Am I the only one? We only got two hands in before Irene had to head out...guess who had to teach on a Saturday...eek! After Irene left the girl talk was moved from the dinner table to the living room. It was oh so much fun. I always laugh a bunch with my ladies. What a great way to spend the Friday of calamity.

On Saturday, I slept in...so very nice...then ate some cereal for breakfast. After walking the pup twice, I decided that I really wanted to see The Fighter since I didn't go see it on my day off (Martin Luther Jr. Day) so I looked up the time it was playing and just headed out. I was a little surprised that it had been downgraded to one of the smaller theaters. Let me tell you this movie is incredible. Incredible. I loved it. It is one of those movies I will rent once it comes out on DVD, it was that good. It also made me want to take kick-boxing or something like that. The rest of the day I was a little lazy...and I liked it.

On Sunday I went to the Bridal Showcase at the Convention Center with Jessica and Kristi to get inspiration for the upcoming style shoot. Being a single girl and a lover of all things wedding this event was so much fun. I do have to admit I was a little disappointed at the lack of flow the showcase had...it felt a little jumbled. Afterward we went to the lobby of the Ritz to go over notes and brainstorm. It was  great Sunday afternoon. Really great. It was the cherry on top to the weekend.
At about 10 o'clock I realize the weekend was over...and I was sad, I curled into bed with a good book and wished I just had one more day until Monday.

Just A Minute...January

It's a round-up or reflection of all the great things that have happened during the month.
Also really handy for inspiration.

eating...in! I ate in all month and I am looking forward to February. Scared I may go a little crazy. Must keep to a budget.

wishing...it was spring. Have I said that enough?

looking...forward to going to the Cirque du Soleil in march (another spring event).

loving...zumba! It really makes me feel better about myself and getting physical activity in my weekly routine.

contemplating...adding yoga to my mix. However after seeing The Fighter makes me want to take kick boxing. I have always wanted to. why wait?

buying...lots of groceries, when you eat in all month you need to have a stocked kitchen.

watching...movies in the theaters, I love my movie gift certificates. I have seen Love & Other Drugs, The Black Swan, and The Fighter. All good movies. Very good movies. I think the next will be The King's Speech or Blue Valentine.

singing...Katy Perry's Firework and Teenage Dream. I cannot get enough of those two songs.

Tell me about your Just A Minute for January!
Just add an -ing and tell me what you've been doing this month!

The Best & Worst of the Golden Globes ::Part Two::

Here is round two of the Best and Worst of the Red Carpet. It amazing to me that some of these celebs can't get their fashion act together. Don't you have a team around you to say...mmm, maybe you should try something else on.
Helena Carter Bonham in Vivienne Westwood
First Thoughts: She looks crazy. What the heck is she wearing?! And with two different colored shoes.
Okay, I don't know if there is more to say than she looks like a crazy person. Why does she have to continually look like she rolled out of bed and threw on something from the designer reject rack.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta
First Thoughts: Looks amazing, as always. This pink dress is light and happy.
As much as I tried to avoid any fashion police comments (so my opinon would not be swayed, I did see a few) and I have to disagree with their assessment.

Piper Perabo in Oscar de la Renta
First Thoughts: Love the bow and train...it is a classic beauty with the red lips and pulled back hair. It is a great look.

January Jones in Versace
First Thoughts: ummm..thats a whole lot of cleavage.
This isn't the MTV awards or a rap video, this is the Golden Globes! Have a little class. I don't care who made it. It is bad. Very bad.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad
First Thoughts: This dress could have been at least decent if that sheer shaw wasn't there.

And onto the next round of The Best & Worst of the Golden Globes.
Be looking for Round Three!

The Best & Worst of the Golden Globes ::Part One::

I finally finished watching the Globes this morning and I wasn't disappointed. Ricky Gervais was quite hysterical, though I don't know if the actors in the room actually thought so. Besides the fashion my next favorite thing about award season is the acceptance speeches. You know the one's I am talking about, the one where there is actually a look of surprise and shock upon the recipients face.

But let's start with the red carpet.
I took some quick notes while E! was on of my first initial thoughts of everyone's attire.

Olivia Wilde in Marchesa
First Thoughts: Gorgeous, I love this dress. However her hair is a little flat.
I love Marchesa and apparently Ryan Seacrest does too, because he was gushing over anyone in Marchesa. I am really disappointed that she didn't do more with her hair though. It just looks like she had a pair of jeans and tee on before throwing this gown on. Disappointing.

Kaley Cuoco in Katherine Kidd
First Thought: Looks like a ruffled cupcake.
I am not thrilled about this dress, it really is too much. I also thought it was a bit tacky that she wore this big ole diamond on the left ring finger. As though the press weren't going to ask or speculate. I am sure the jeweler would have been more than happy to lend her another big diamond to wear.

Emma Stone in Calvin Klein
First Thought: This is bad. The color with the new blonde hair makes my eyes hurt.
Now, the dress itself is a perfect fit. It fits her like a glove. It is just the the color of the dress that kills me. I know the blonde hair is for a new roll but I do prefer her with a darker color.

Eva Longoria in Zac Posen
First Thoughts: This train...this dress is amaing. She looks like a bombshell. Love it.
Black was the fade of the night, it is classic. Everything about her looks flawless.

Natalie Portman in Victor & Rolf
First Thoughts: OMG, this is adorable. However, I really could do without this all red rose. Her baby bump is sweet. And the jewelry is perfect.
The more I look at this dress the more I hate that red rose. It really kills the whole look.

There are more best and worst of the red carpet to come!
I just didn't want to keep my fashionable readers waiting.

If I Were Going

As I mentioned the award season is my fave! And what a better way to enjoy one of my favorite seasons than to dream of what I would wear if I were attending the Golden Globes...
a girl can dream, right? Here are some quick picks of what I would love to wrap my body in.

Valentino Spring Couture 2010
This dress maybe a risk (couture always is) with the bright color and what could come off as a sheer-like skirt. I think with the right accessories and hair this dress could be a show stopper.

Armani Prive Fall Couture 2010
How stunning is this floor length beaded gown? In the words of Rachel Zoe...I die! If memory serves me right then Ann Hathoway wore a similiar dress on the red carpet. It is a classic red carpet gown. Can't go wrong.

Jason Wu Spring Ready-to-Wear 2011

It is hard to go wrong with a simple black gown, but what I love about this gown is the detailed sleeve work. What better way to take a sleeveless gown from yawn to fun. And as Diane Kruger flawlessly showed us, it is hard to go wrong with Wu.

Another Jason Wu Spring Ready-to-Wear 2011
As I was searching for gowns I overlooked a lot of shorter dresses just because if I were going to an award show like the Golden Globes I am going to wear a gown. However, there were two shorter dresses that I  couldn't pass up and this Jason Wu was one of them. It is beautifully constructed, just flawless. I can't help but to love it!

Donna Karen Resort 2011
This deep blue Donna Karen is sexy in all the right ways. It shows just enough leg and cleavage to where your eyes are not popping out of your head but makes you want to do a double take. The necklace paired with the dress on the runway is all wrong for the red carpet. I am thinking DIAMONDS! You always have to sparkle.

Marchsesa Spring 2010
Being as short as I am, I am not sure I could pull this dress off with the skirt designed, but holy smokes is this dress ahh-mazing! I can't stop staring at it. I love the tailed dress that drifts into this flowy bottom....and the black flowers trailing up to a one shoulder dress. Breath taking.

Christian Dior Fall Couture 2010

The Christian Dior Fall Couture collection for 2010 was all about flowers and petals. This is my 2nd short dress pick and it is a wild card for sure...and could very well land on the worst dress list, but sometimes it is worth the risk to wear something as exquisite as this dress.
And now for the winner of If I Were Going...drum roll please...

This red embelleshed draped gown, by no other than Alexander McQueen. Can you say, gorgeous?! I've said it a hundred times before on this blog and I will say it a hundred more times...I love red! What better way to go to an award show is something so hot?

So that is it for this round of If I Were Going.
What are your red carpet picks?
Any of these? Love em? Hate em?
Let me know!
There will def be a Golden Globe recap tomorrow, since I won't be watching the award show live.
Gasp, I know. Thank goodness for DVR!

Wu. Wu. Wu.

When I saw this Jason Wu dress being worn by Diane Kruger, I googled it. Yes, I googled (name that movie). And came upon two three four more Wu runway designs that she has sported on the red carpet. And quite stylish I may add. Kruger takes the runway and puts it to the street. I am sure that Wu is honored to have such a beautiful woman wear is line.

Cannes 2010

This is the dress that had me hitting up google. Look at it, it is definitely a show stopper!

CFDA 2009
I have a slight obsession with red. And this dress is making me drool a little bit on my keyboard. I don't know which dress I love more the show stopping silk pink or this short red number with the statement cap sleeves. Kruger was Jason Wu's date for the night. He must just love seeing his creation worn so beautifully.

2010 SAG Awards
The mustard color always scares me, personally, probably because it would make me look ill. But with Kruger's pale white skin and red lip choice she makes this draped one-shoulder dress look divine. Another best dressed for Kruger in Jason Wu.

Fall 2009
In the fall of 2009 Diane wore this delish number while she hosted a sneak preview of Wu's collection and Neiman Marcus. Before the event Kruger was seen pairing this number with a fur shrug. Fabulous. Don't you think?

How famous do I have to become before I can be friends with a designer?

As you can see I am a little wuzie (corny, sorry but I had to) over these dresses...and a have a little bit of a fashion crush on Diane Kruger. Well my lunch break is over, I better get back to the day job.

I Am Willing...Let Me!

For those of you who don't know I am a hostess at heart and have a passion for event planning. I've done several events for my day job (and those opportunities have helped me realize my dream), but it doesn't always offer ongoing opportunities for me to really plan and dream.  Thats when I realized I could do it on my own. I have the experience. The drive. The passion.

But where to start?
I've been asking myself that question for months. Reading books. Talking to people in the business. Then it dawned on me! It was as though a light bulb went off and I knew I had no reasons to keep procrastinating.

Here & Now!
It is a new year and I need to stop dreaming about what I love but start doing what I love!
So here is my plan:

When a friend of mine started her photography business, in order to build her portfolio she offered the first 10 people to respond free photo shoots. Brilliant. It helped her practice and showcase her amazing talent.

So taking a tip from her that is exactly what I am going to do. Offer my event planning services free so I can use you as a reference, build a portfolio and gain more experience.

Due to the amount of time that can go into planning just one event, offering my services to 10 people seems a bit much at one time. So lets start with the first two to respond! If the first two end up being small simple events, I will add another. But there is no more time to waste.

I must seize the day!

don't dream it...be it

So will you let me?
It can be the simplest of things to your child's birthday party
or something a bit more elaborate.
I am willing!

I look forward to hearing from you.
